Matthew 4:8-11 (HCSB)
8 Again, the Devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 And he said to Him, “I will give You all these things if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written:
Worship the Lord your God,
and serve only Him.”
11 Then the Devil left Him, and immediately angels came and began to serve Him.

So many times I have used this very passage to fight against the devil’s schemes. I remember battling in prayer for my son’s sobriety years ago. Not audibly, but in my mind, I could hear Satan say it would never happen—that I would someday bury my son. I remember yelling “you can’t have him!” I had fear and gave it to Jesus that day. “Away from me in the name of Jesus” has brought me peace on several occasions but this one was powerful. That very next day my son made the choice to go to rehab. He now lives a productive life; I am constantly reminded that the power comes from God. Anything good comes from His hands. Other times praying for what I didn’t get, I gain peace in knowing His way is best and to accept hardship as a pathway to peace. Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, know He will make all things right. That’s the gift of surrendering to His will.
