1 Samuel 3:19-21  (HCSB)
19 Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and He fulfilled everything Samuel prophesied. 20 All Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was a confirmed prophet of the Lord. 21 The Lord continued to appear in Shiloh, because there He revealed Himself to Samuel by His word.

Samuel was set apart and chosen by God from before birth. God had a plan to do great things through him. We see that in his mother Hannah’s prayer in chapter 1 and all through Samuel’s life. At the end of chapter 3, we learn that the Lord continued to strengthen and walk with Samuel as he grew up and matured. God also made Himself known through Samuel so that all of Israel listened to what God said through Samuel. Samuel was also obedient. He continued to do what God called him to. He also continued to seek God both in his duties and obedience at the temple and in God’s Word. Here we learn that God continued to reveal Himself to Samuel through scripture. There could have been other divine encounters, but God seems to primarily use scripture to continue teaching, shaping, and leading Samuel. Through God’s will and Samuel’s obedience, he was raised up to do great things.
