We enjoy telling stories to our children and grandchildren about their ancestors. We have told them that our relatives came from diverse religions and countries all over the world. There were so many different family dynamics involved but God formed them all into our present little family! In this passage, Matthew is telling his people (the church) of the genealogy of Christ. It was so important to know, for the history of Christianity and for our future salvation. God weaved a beautiful plan through intricately threading His Son’s lineage throughout the scriptures. God knew! Rahab, a prostitute, hid Israelite spies and helped save her family from destruction, faithful, mother of Boaz. God knew! Ruth, a widower with no heir, a foreigner, loyal, faithful to God, mother of Obed, great grandmother of David. God knew! My paternal grandfather and great grandfather were both abusive alcoholics. My daddy didn’t want this to be his way of life. He stayed faithful and obedient through his relationship with Jesus Christ. He changed the trajectory of his past and was a wonderful father who loved his family. God knew!
