A Note From Pastor HD
There are so many things I love about Winter- like the beauty of the snow, Christmas and all its pageantry, and a time to slow down a little bit (at least you don’t have to mow the yard). But then there are the long dark days, the sharp chill of the northern wind, and the feeling of being stuck inside.
I am thankful that God designed the seasons because they give us points of reference and new things to look forward to as the year moves along. In our Connect Reading for Winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) we will spend some time in the book of Matthew. This gospel is the lynch pin with the Old Testament. This gospel connects the dots of the law, prophets, judges, kings and now Messiah.
Matthew goes to great detail to show us how Jesus is the King of Kings that was promised from the beginning. Jesus is the “ONE” that will crush the head of the serpent, and usher in the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus is the promised one that comes from the Root of Jesse and is what all of the Old Testament has waited to see.
This King is not a distant or disconnected King, but one that came to be a part of us, to do for us what we could not do for ourselves, and to glorify us forever. This is the story of Matthew and we will see that though all of the parables, the miracles, and the teaching that Jesus is the true treasure of the Kingdom. I hope you will join me as we dig a little deeper into the gospel according to Matthew.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Enjoy Winter-
