Questions for the Week

  1. In the “Woman at the Well” story, we see the immediate impact Jesus has on her life. Why does Jesus focus on her physical need (4:1-15) BEFORE drawing attention to her spiritual need (4:16-18)? Like the woman, how do you try to satisfy your soul with something other than Jesus? Do you find it hard to trust that Jesus will meet your needs? Where do you find it hardest?
  2. There were moral and cultural reasons the disciples were amazed to see Jesus talking with the woman. In John 4:4 it said Jesus “had to pass through Samaria” yet most went out of their way to avoid it. Do you feel a burden to share the gospel with the lost? What are some excuses that keep you from witnessing? To whom is God sending you to share the gospel?
  3. In John 4:39-42, we see people believing in Jesus 1) because of the woman and 2) because of their interactions with Jesus Himself. All believers are equipped to share the Gospel. How might you sharpen your ability to do so? Some of the Samaritans asked Jesus to stay when they encountered Him. Who has God put in your path with a hunger to know Him more? How can you help them?
