Ephesians 6:1-3 (HCSB)
Children and Parents
6 Children, obey your parents as you would the Lord, because this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, 3 so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.
Lisa Estes
If you were to ask most people how long they would like to live, they would say as long as possible. Honor your father and mother is the only commandment with this promise. As an adult, it wasn’t too difficult to honor my parents. I didn’t share a house with them. I didn’t even live in the same town. But as a child living with them in their home with their rules, now that’s a different story. Obeying our parents is the first way of learning how to obey God. If we constantly rebel against mom and dad, we will think we can rebel against all authority, even God. If you want a long life that goes well for you, remember to honor your father and mother. There is no room for disrespect in relationships with our parents or our God.
