Ephesians 6:4-9 (HCSB)
4 Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Slaves and Masters
5 Slaves, obey your human[e] masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ. 6 Don’t work only while being watched, in order to please men, but as slaves of Christ, do God’s willfrom your heart. 7 Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to men, 8 knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord. 9 And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening them, because you know that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with Him.
Ron Estes
Really? Don’t make my children angry? Sometimes when teaching and training my children it required making them angry. But Paul is warning fathers to not frustrate our children with hypocrisy, humiliation or abuse. We are to teach and train them. We are to discipline out of our love for them. This will help them to mature in the ways of the Lord. In our work, we are to do good to those that we have authority over and to those that have authority over us. Do not do it for show but be genuine and treat others with respect. Work for those that hire you as if you are working for the Lord. This should cause us to be diligent, honest and dependable workers. We should seek the best for our employer and our employees. Remember, the Lord rewards those who do good.
