1 Peter 5:6-7 (HCSB)
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.
Pastor HD Jones
If I were doing a character study of the New Testament, Peter would not be my first choice as the guy that best exemplified humility. He was always leaping before looking; opening his mouth before he engaged his mind; and just always seemed hot headed or emotional. This is the guy that cut off the ear of the guard that came after Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Yet here we see an older and wiser apostle as he is writing to encourage believers in their walk with Jesus. Peter had learned some of these lessons the hard way but he knew they were important parts of our faith walk. Humble yourself by trusting God with the outcome. Share your burden with Him because He cares about you. We have seen that all week in our Bible study. God cared about Elijah; God cares about the people of Jerusalem; and God cares about you. That should really humble you… the Creator of the universe cares about you and your burdens. What a great God we serve!
