2 Peter 3:7-9 (HCSB)
7 But by the same word,  the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment  and destruction of ungodly men. 8 Dear friends, don’t let this one thing escape you: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.  9 The Lord does not delay His promise,  as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any  to perish  but all to come to repentance.

Bryce Akers

Peter informs us that the day of Judgment is coming and instead of water like the great flood with Noah, this time God will destroy the Earth with fire. Peter is telling us in verse 8 that God doesn’t look at time like us on Earth do. Always running around, busy with work, hobbies, etc. God is eternal and time does not hold Him like it does for us on Earth. We can not distinguish time to the promises of God. God is the one who made the schedule. He keeps His promise every time and will not be late. He is simply giving us more time to repent and turn to Him.
