Psalm 19:1-6 (HCSB)
The Witness of Creation and Scripture
For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.
1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.
2 Day after day they pour out speech;
night after night they communicate knowledge.
3 There is no speech; there are no words;
their voice is not heard.
4 Their message has gone out to all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a groom coming from the bridal chamber;
it rejoices like an athlete running a course.
6 It rises from one end of the heavens
and circles to their other end;
nothing is hidden from its heat.
Neil Andrews
Psalm 19:1-6 is similar in intent to one of my favorite passages, Romans 1:20. Every sunrise is a masterpiece, every sunset a final brushstroke on the day’s canvas. The sky, vast and unmeasurable, is God’s gallery, displaying His glory in shifting colors, rolling clouds, and endless stars. Verses 1-6 remind us that creation itself speaks, revealing God’s presence in a language beyond the limitation of words. Like an artist whose work reflects their soul, the heavens reflect the nature of their Creator-His power, beauty, and infinite imagination. The sun faithfully rises each morning, subtly whispering His constancy. The stars scattered like jewels across the night, tell of His majesty. Even without speech, the story they proclaim is about a God who longs to be known. But do we take the time to pause, watch and listen? Do we allow wonder to lead us to worship? Truly knowing God begins with really seeing and acknowledging His handiwork surrounding us. Today, let your eyes be drawn upward and your heart toward the One who paints with light and sound, and speaks through beauty!
