Questions for the Week
1. In Deuteronomy 6, the Promised Land had already been given but not yet possessed. BEFORE Israel went in, they were commanded to follow God. That command came with a promise of blessing and long life in the midst of God’s will. Is there a time you can recognize the connection between following God and experiencing His blessing? Is there a time you remember NOT following and experiencing difficulty?
2. In Deuteronomy 6:10-12, 5 times God reminds us that His blessing was given not earned. It is only afterward that God commanded them, among other things, to worship Him. How does remembering God’s blessing drive your worship? Why does God give the blessing before the command?
3. Proverbs 22:6 can make parents feel guilty. A child messes up and we question, “where did WE go wrong?” The flip side of this verse is generally true as well –if you DON’T show them the right way early, they often won’t start on their own. How should your parenting change as your child ages? How is discipline loving? How is a lack of discipline unloving?
