Matthew 21:14-17 (HCSB)
Children Praise Jesus
14 The blind and the lame came to Him in the temple complex, and He healed them. 15 When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders that He did and the children shouting in the temple complex, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” “Yes,” Jesus told them. “Have you never read: You have prepared praise from the mouths of children and nursing infants?” 17 Then He left them, went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.

The blind and lame were also not allowed to enter the inner courts of the temple. They were confined to the outer courts along with the Gentiles. After Jesus cleared the temple, they were able to approach Him. As soon as these outcasts approached Him, Jesus again met the immediate physical needs presented in front of Him. Again, Jesus ceases what He is doing to care for those who need Him. The religious leaders of the day strongly opposed Jesus’ ministry and recognition because it took attention and praise away from them, threatening their authority over the Jewish people. Jesus also quotes Psalm 8:2 specifically highlighting and celebrating the praise of children. Praise that He highly values and enjoys. Finally, Jesus goes to where he was staying. Jerusalem was flooded with travelers at this time of the year, so Jesus and His followers went to a nearby village.
