Questions for the Week
Why does Leviticus spend so much time describing an acceptable offering? Why did God want the one bringing the offering to be the one killing the offering (see Lev. 1:4-5)? What does that reveal about the seriousness of sin? How does that affect your understanding of Jesus’ once for all sacrifice on the Cross?
Leviticus 3 is all about Peace/Fellowship Offerings (translations vary). However, only parts of it were consumed (the fat) and the one bringing the offering could partake of the meal. What areas of your life would you not want to bring to God because they are blemished? How are those areas of your life at war with God (rather than at peace)?
It can be said that Genesis 1-2 and Revelation 21-22 are the only chapters of the Bible that don’t mention sin or its effects. Why do you think that is? In Leviticus 4, ANYONE that sins has an opportunity for forgiveness (Lev. 4:2). Why, then, does God single out priests and leaders for sin, confession, and repentance?
