Questions for the Week

1.     What do the miraculous pregnancies of Mary and Elizabeth tell us about the power of God? What does it show about how God works in the world? Zechariah was a righteous man but he stumbled in unbelief. How often do you struggle with unbelief? Where do you struggle with that most? What has helped you most in that struggle?

2.     Luke 3:4-6 is a fulfillment of prophecies from Isaiah 40:3-5. Look back there. HOW does John the Baptist fulfill those prophecies? In Isaiah, that passage is about comfort for God’s people. Yet, John’s first words here include “brood of vipers,” “wrath,” and being “thrown into fire.” How is a call like that actually comfort for God’s people?

3.     In Luke 3:15-20, there is something about John that makes people initially wonder if HE was the Messiah. What was it? Why was an impoverished man (based on his clothing) living in the middle of nowhere eating bugs and honey attracting people? Why is it important, both to himself and others, that John reminded others He wasn’t Jesus?
