Questions for the Week
1. The first question in the Bible actually comes from Satan and is meant to instill doubt about God’s providence. Wisdom is knowing the right thing AND doing it. Why is it important to see that Satan is “cunning,” not wise? Up to this point, there is no “bad” in creation, only “good.” When Adam & Eve’s eyes were opened, what new thing did they see? Why was that bad?
2. God’s first question in the Bible is “where are you?” in Gen. 3:9. God already knew where they were. What was the question meant to reveal about mankind? God had already said eating of that tree meant death. What was the question meant to do for mankind? Why is it an act of grace that God kicked mankind out of the Garden BEFORE they ate of the “tree of life” (3:22)?
3. In Genesis 4 we see the first murder. HD often says, “sin takes you places you didn’t want to go, makes you stay longer than you wanted, and costs you more than you wanted to give.” There is no way Adam & Eve could have foreseen this. How does their sin make this murder possible? Cain sinned BEFORE he murdered. What does this reveal about how unrepentant sin affects our souls, hearts, minds, speech, and actions?
