Questions for the Week

  1. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 was written just before Israel entered the Promised Land after 40 years of wandering. It affirms the oneness of God and our need to both follow God and teach our kids to do the same. Why is it important to remind Israel of this BEFORE receiving God’s blessings? How does serving God with our whole being tie into teaching our kids about God?
  2. Deuteronomy 6:12 reminds us that being comfortable often makes us forget about God. Verse 14 commands us to stay faithful to God. What are some of the other “gods” that make you forget about God when times are easy? Where are you most comfortable –relationships, finances, vocation, etc.? How can you guard against forgetting about God in those areas?
  3. Staying connected to God is the theme of John 15:5-8. Doing so is like a branch receiving nutrients from the tree. It produces fruitfulness in the lives of believers. Where do you see the most spiritual fruit in your life? Where do you tend to disconnect from God? Since Jesus is the “True Vine” (15:1), what fake vines do you find yourself attached to? Why?
