John 14:1-6 (HCSB)
The Way to the Father
14 “Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. 4 You know the way to where I am going.” 5 “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Part of my job requires me to travel to several towns across the country. Before I begin my journey I make sure my phone is charged, my gas tank is filled, and my belly is full. I enter the GPS coordinates in my phone and then I simply sit back and drive, following the directions that my phone tells me to, until I reach my destination. However, sometimes my trips don't go as smoothly as they should. I've had flat tires, accidents, traffic, bad weather, and many other things happen that delayed or cancelled my trip. I've also experienced my phone telling me to go down a certain road that ended up being under construction where there was no road at the end. When Jesus was speaking to His disciples, he was giving them directions and instructions on getting to Heaven. It is interesting, but also somewhat understanding, that the same men that were with Him through all the teaching and miracles were now so confused about what He was telling them. God's plan for all of us is simple and pure, but no matter how much we plan and prepare, we fall short....and He knows we will and He understands. That is where Jesus comes in. He paid the price for our sins, our mistakes, and our shortfalls. Before we take our final journey it is important for us to take time to get prepared, and to help others who have not heard His word get prepared also. This life has its own difficult moments, but if we stick with God's plan, the journey will be well worth it.
