Questions for the Week

  1. Some of the language used to describe God in Revelation 4 includes royal (crowns, thrones), power (lightning/thunder), and majestic (glory, honor, praise) adjectives. Which of those do you most easily thank God for? Which of those do you most easily forget? How are those qualities of God evident in your life?
  2. In Revelation 5, John weeps profusely upon finding out that no one could open the scroll or even look at it. Why is that such a sad moment? That scroll had seven seals of judgment – why did the scroll need to be opened? Chapter 5 ends with a song praising Jesus. In this passage, what is it about Jesus that changes their sorrow to joy?
  3. Chronologically, Amos 5:21-24 comes in the middle of Israel’s monarchy –it was a time of prosperity and stability.  How, then, was Amos able to diagnose the cancer of sin that would lead to Exile? What about their “worship” was just noise? How is that like/unlike our culture today? What did God want instead? Where can we get better at fulfilling God’s desires?
