Questions for the Week

  1. John 3:16 is one of the most well-known verses in all the Bible but the verses around it give it life. How is Jesus’ death a result of God’s love? What does it mean to be “condemned”? If you didn’t/don’t know Jesus, how would that condemnation change your life right now? How has Jesus’ sacrifice changed your life on this side of eternity?
  2. In Romans 5:6-11, we are told that Jesus brings us reconciliation with God. Reconciliation means to make friendly again. How are we, in our sinfulness, unfriendly toward God? Where do you notice you are most friendly toward God? Where are you most unfriendly? How does Jesus’ life bring greater reconciliation than even His death (5:10)?
  3. Ephesians 2:1-10 is one of the most important passages to understand how, in salvation, God did something for us that we couldn’t do for ourselves. We are dead in sin (2:1) not merely ill. Salvation is a gift, not our purpose. Generally, why were we created and saved (2:10)? Specifically, what is your purpose on this side of eternity? Are you fulfilling that? Why/not?
