Questions for the Week

  1. When Nehemiah learned of the sad state of Jerusalem, he wept, mourned, and fasted. What causes you to respond that way? When you are distraught the way he was, what is your natural instinct on how to fix the situation? Is your first reaction to pray or something else? How did Nehemiah become a person that responded this way?
  2. Nehemiah was a high official in a foreign kingdom. He had prestige and influence and a LOT to lose by making his request known to Artaxerxes –in fact, Neh. 2:2 says he was afraid. Where are you most afraid to share your spiritual concerns? Why? What is more normal for you –to share your spiritual concerns with people that can help or to hide your emotions?
  3. If God gave you an opportunity to advance His kingdom like Nehemiah, what part of your current life would be the hardest to give up? Where would you be most fearful? What would be the easiest to change? What is your response when you encounter difficulty doing something God has asked you to do? Do you respond like Nehemiah (2:17-20)  or another way?
