Matthew 7:7-12 (HCSB)
Keep Asking, Searching, Knocking
7 “Keep asking,[a] and it will be given to you. Keep searching,[b] and you will find. Keep knocking,[c] and the door[d] will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door[e] will be opened. 9 What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them—this is the Law and the Prophets.[f]

What is prayer? What is its purpose? Why do we do it? Take a minute to consider and answer these for yourself. Prayer is communicating with God for the purpose of worshiping Him, aligning our hearts to His will, requesting His Divine intervention to sustain us, and seeking forgiveness. Prayer is simple, yet we tend to over complicate it. We take the focus off our Lord and Savior and put it on ourselves in countless ways. We “babble like pagans” for countless reasons, and we forget a crucial fact: “your Father knows what you need BEFORE you ask”. Our all knowing, all powerful, timeless, limitless, all loving, eternal Father knows. He knows us, He knows our needs, He knows our struggles. He knows any and everything we could possibly ask of Him. So let us simply glorify Him and ask that His will be done.
