QUESTIONS FOR THE WEEK

  1. Though King Nebuchadnezzar had declared Israel’s God the highest God and promoted Daniel because of it, he         still exalted himself over God. What does that say about his view of himself? What does it say about how he viewed God? If you are higher than a “god,” why bother following or worshipping?
  2. When Nebuchadnezzar found out that three of his trusted advisors disobeyed him, he was enraged (3:13). Why was Daniel NOT included in the list? Nebuchadnezzar believed no god could stop him (3:15). What kind of guts did it take for them to say “even if” God wouldn’t save, they wouldn’t commit idolatry? To others, did that come across as trust or insanity?
  3. Why was Nebuchadnezzar “astonished” (3:24) that Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego did not die in the fire? The 4th person in the fire was probably the pre-incarnate Jesus! As a result, Nebuchadnezzar promoted them and exalted God (3:29-30). How is it possible to praise God and still not really believe? Why can mankind see God work and still disbelieve?
