QUESTIONS FOR THE WEEK

  1. We know how Peter, James, and John reacted when the mob came for Jesus –they froze, they fought, and they fled. Yet, in Mark 13:3-13, Jesus clearly told those Disciples specifically they would be arrested and beaten for their faith.  Why would they run BEFORE the resurrection but remain faithful AFTER? What was missing in them before? What changed in them after?
  2. In Mark 13:14-27 we see two pictures of the End Times–one of great suffering and one of triumphant return. In the first, we are told to NOT believe that Jesus has come back already. In the second, we’ll KNOW He came back. For the believer, false messiahs bring suffering, but the TRUE Messiah brings us to Him. How does knowing that our eternity is with Christ give you strength to endure hardship now? How does it change your perspective on your future?
  3. We’ll generally know when Jesus is coming back (Mark 13:28-37), not the exact time. As “that hour” approaches, what are some things we are supposed to be “on guard” for (vs. 33)? What does it mean to “stay awake”? It can’t mean going without sleep –so how can we prepare ourselves to be awake spiritually? What around us can make us fall asleep spiritually?
