Matthew 8:14-17 (HCSB)
Healings at Capernaum 14 When Jesus went into Peter’s house, He saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and began to serve Him. 16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick, 17 so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: He Himself took our weaknesses and carried our diseases.

Prophecy Fulfilled.
Take the time to read Isaiah 53: 4,5, and 11. At this point in the scripture, Jesus’s majesty is evident. He touches a sick woman, and she is healed. He tells demons to flee, and they immediately obey. These verses, in which Jesus delivers people from the bondage of sickness and sin, dramatically demonstrate that He is the Messiah. Matthew connects the dots and points out that these miracles fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy– “He took our sickness and bore our disease.” I don’t know about you, but when I read about the miracles Jesus performed, I wish I had a time machine to be able to watch them up close and in person! When Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law, she responded as we should all respond when Jesus’s touch brings us healing and restoration–that is eager and enthusiastic service to Him and His kingdom.
