Hebrews 9:11-16 (HCSB)
New Covenant Ministry
11 But the Messiah has appeared, high priest of the good things that have come. In the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands (that is, not of this creation ), 12 He entered the most holy place once for all, not by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow, sprinkling those who are defiled, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of the Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to serve the living God? 15 Therefore, He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance, because a death has taken place for redemption from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. 16 Where a will exists, the death of the one who made it must be established.

Unlike the old covenant, the new covenant needed the blood of one man, Jesus Christ. The old covenant used the blood of bulls, goats, and calves to signify that someone is outwardly clean, but it is only by the blood of Jesus that our spirit can be set free and redeemed. Last I heard, no calf could do that. It is often easier to change the visible sins we commit because others can see and judge us for them. The hard part comes when we struggle with sin that is so deeply rooted within ourselves that it becomes hard for us to even see or admit. Jesus’ blood was shed not to clean the dirt off our shoes, but to free us from sin that can be so deep HE is the only one who can pull us out of those waters clean. So, why? Why risk it all for a sinner like me – Heb. 9:14? So that we may serve the living God! God doesn’t want us to be perfect, He wants us to show the world that through the blood of Jesus Christ, we are ALL made clean. Go share that with the world!
