Romans 15:1-3 (HCSB)
Pleasing Others, Not Ourselves
15 Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves. 2 Each one of us must please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3 For even the Messiah did not please Himself. On the contrary, as it is written, The insults of those who insult You have fallen on Me.

So as most of you know, I do some of Temple’s welcome videos for our online viewers and Sunday morning greetings. I’ve stood in front of what will be our future elevator shaft, I’ve worn a hard hat and even sat on the front of a tractor. All this to say, I do it for our guests and newcomers. I don’t mind looking silly or saying words like “folks” because the people viewing are what’s important to me, I want them to feel like family with us. I want people to know how welcoming Temple Baptist Church is because it was for us when we first attended and now it’s my family’s turn to do the same for the next ones coming in our doors. I’ve been a people pleaser since my teen years, but now that I’m stronger in my faith, I know how to discern when I’m truly serving others or just trying to please them. The example of how Christ lived His time on Earth was enough. It’s not about me, if it doesn’t point that person to Him, then I probably shouldn’t be doing it.
