Psalm 19:12-14 (HCSB)
12 Who perceives his unintentional sins?
Cleanse me from my hidden faults.
13 Moreover, keep Your servant from willful sins;
do not let them rule over me.
Then I will be innocent
and cleansed from blatant rebellion.
14 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable to You,
Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
Neil Andrews
Knowing God is not just about witnessing His glory in creation or studying His word-it is about inviting Him into the hidden places of our hearts. Psalm 19:12-14 reminds us that we are often unaware of our own faults, like an artist who cannot see the imperfections in their own painting until they step back and let the light and a different perspective reveal them. I am blessed to work with creative friends who God has made predominantly right-hemisphere dominant. I’ve recognized a sometimes-unspoken understanding that true beauty is found in layers. The unseen brushstrokes you’ve never seen until you are standing six feet from a masterpiece, the silence between the notes-these subtleties shape the whole. God also sees the depths of our souls, even the places we think we’ve hidden. When they are exposed, He hasn’t done that to shame us, but to refine us, transforming our imperfections into something beautiful. Like a poet who carefully chooses just the right word, may the meditations of our hearts be pleasing to Him. Like a sculptor smoothing rough edges, may we allow Him to shape us. Knowing God is not merely an intellectual pursuit –it is an immersive, intimate experience where we surrender to the hands of the Master Artist.
