Ephesians 6:10-12 (HCSB)
Christian Warfare
10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. 12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
Israel Brooks
We often wage war in the wrong arenas. That is to say, we fight the wrong battles. Whether by stupidity (a few times back when I played sports, I got mad at the refs and directed my attention toward them instead of my opponent) or deception (decoy sites with fake airfields were built in WW2 to draw attention and resources away from enemies), it leads to the same result, defeat. Sun Tzu, a legendary strategist whose ideas have influenced military and leadership for over 2,000 years, said in the Art of War, “If you know your enemy and yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt.” We must know who/what our enemy is. This is essential for success. It is not another person, it is not the circumstances you find yourself in, it is not your lack of resources, it is not your surroundings, it is not your upbringing or.....etc. Although we regularly try to make these and more our enemy, it only places ourselves in too many lose-lose situations. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood.” We must start fighting the right battles. As children of God, our enemy is that which opposes God or “evil in the heavenly realms.”
