Ephesians 2:4-7  (HCSB)
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us, 5 made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! 6 Together with Christ Jesus He also raised us up and seated us in the heavens, 7 so that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace through His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Now for “the rest of the story.” Two words changed everything, “But God”. At the end of yesterday’s reading there was no hope. “But God” stepped in and made us alive. In today’s material world we think of riches as money, real estate, mutual funds, retirement accounts, gold, stocks, bonds, crypto, cars, boats, and other stuff. When we read these verses in Ephesians 2 today, what riches do you associate with God? He already owns it all. He created this world and everything in it. The things that we think of as “riches” will most certainly all burn away. God is rich in love, mercy, and grace. Because of these Godly riches, He reached down and claimed us from our worldly desires and the inclinations of our flesh. He loves us so much that he doesn’t leave us in the places that our flesh takes us. Our calling as a Christian is to be like Christ. A great way to do this is by focusing on riches like love, mercy and kindness, all found in Christ Jesus.
