2 Samuel 11:22-27 (HCSB)
22 Then the messenger left.
When he arrived, he reported to David all that Joab had sent him to tell. 23 The messenger reported to David, “The men gained the advantage over us and came out against us in the field, but we counterattacked right up to the entrance of the gate. 24 However, the archers shot down on your soldiers from the top of the wall, and some of the king’s soldiers died. Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”
25 David told the messenger, “Say this to Joab: ‘Don’t let this matter upset you because the sword devours all alike. Intensify your fight against the city and demolish it.’ Encourage him.”
26 When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband Uriah had died, she mourned for him. 27 When the time of mourning ended, David had her brought to his house. She became his wife and bore him a son. However, the Lord considered what David had done to be evil.

Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, observing the wicked and the good.” Psalm 90:8b includes, “our secret sins in the light of your presence”, and Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, “God will bring every act to judgement, including every hidden thing, whether good or evil”. I wasn’t always the most obedient or well-behaved kid (go figure!). Like a lot of kids, I sometimes told a “little white lie” to avoid getting in trouble. Or I tried to justify my actions based on someone else’s behavior or some other observation. At that time, prior to my salvation, I must say there was a little pride in thinking I got away with something. But somehow my parents always, always, always knew the truth...or found out later. David made a feeble attempt to justify his action by reminding Joab that soldiers on both sides die in war. But certainly not because of a deliberate and evil plan of their commanding officer, in order to cover up a personal sin! Make no mistake, ALL sin displeases the Lord.
