Genesis 2:1-3 (HCSB)
So the heavens and the earth and everything in them were completed. 2 By the seventh day God completed His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. 3 God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation.
Sherry Dorris
Creation of the heavens, earth and all that is in it was completed. Six full days of work. Day seven God rested. This is the first use of the number seven in the Bible. In our reading this week, the word “good” has been used seven times. If you study scripture, you will recognize the significance of the number seven in the life of ancient Israel. It communicated a sense of completeness. Rest is important to our Christian walk. God set the example for us to rest. The rest we need is to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). Christians, we should always be sharing and spreading the good news of Christ. We cannot do that properly if we don’t take time to rest upon His word. We must put on the whole armor of God to take on the world we live in and be prepared for the next battle with the devil. Rest up, you will not regret it!
