Sunday Connect Lesson for August 13, 2023
CHURCH CHECKUP
John's account of the vision of Revelation was written around the mid-90s AD.
Study the Word: Seven historical churches received a letter from Jesus Christ. The messages were addressed to the churches, but the individuals who made up those churches heard them loudly and clearly.
Key Truth: Faithful believers overcome persecution (Revelation 2:8-10, 12-13; 3:10-12). At every age in history, including the modern age, believers have faced opposition and suffering for their faith. More is yet to come. We must stand for Jesus in spite of it.
Key Truth: Faithful believers overcome false teaching (Revelation 2:2, 14-16, 20-24). We must be grounded in the truth of God's Word to be able to combat falsehood.
Key Truth: Faithful believers overcome temptation (Revelation 2:4; 3:1-2, 15-18). The Devil relentlessly attempts to distract and destroy us. We hold fast and we are held fast by our loving Savior.
Family Connection: Continue the discussion after church!
What are some things you learned from John's letters to the churches? If Jesus wrote you a letter today, what are some things He would praise you for? What are some things He would warn you about?
