When Faith Brings Opposition
The writer's declaration of the supremacy of Christ was written around AD 64-68.
Study the Word: Jesus is the final sacrifice for sin. The writer of Hebrews continued to compare the old covenant, so familiar to his Jewish readers, with the work of Jesus. Every time, Jesus is better.
Key Truth: Jesus' blood sacrifice provided redemption once and for all (Hebrews 9:6-7, 11-22). Though the rituals of the priest were painstakingly and repeatedly followed, they were not enough to completely pay for our redemption. But Jesus paid once, by offering His own blood, to fulfill God's requirement.
Key Truth: Jesus' better sacrifice takes away our sin (Hebrews 10:1-17). He took our penalty and paid the price. He ushered in the new covenant, based only on His finished work of grace, available to all who believe.
Family Connection: Continue the discussion after church! Why did Jesus sacrifice Himself to us? How should we respond to what Jesus did for us?
