Questions for the Week

  1. Have you ever had anybody respond to you the way Sanballat and Tobiah did to Nehemiah? What did that feel like? What was your response? Why did Nehemiah answer them in 2:20 but not in chapter 4? What do you think about Nehemiah praying against his enemies in 4:4-5?
  2. In 4:9, we see Nehemiah pray and put guards in place. In 4:15-23, we see half the workers building, half protecting. Was this wisdom or fear or both? For us today, what does it look like to be one of the workers protecting? What would it look like to be one of the workers building? Nehemiah labored with his workers (4:23). What does that look like for you?
  3. In chapter 6, Nehemiah is repeatedly threatened and slandered. Because of that, one person even suggested seeking refuge in the temple (vs. 6:10). If Nehemiah had not been spiritually discerning, this might have sounded reasonable. This shows us just how subtle Satan can be in temptation. What gave Nehemiah the strength, wisdom, and courage to continue?
