Sunday Connect Lesson for MAy 7, 2023
When Faith Brings Opposition

The events in the book of Daniel took place during the time when God's people had been taken into captivity by the Babylonians and later the Medo-Persian Empire from 605 BC to 536 BC.  This lessons' events occurred during the later period of that time, when Daniel was at least 80 years old.

Study the Word: Daniel continued to pray to the one, true God, though it could have cost his position and even his life.

Key Truth: Believers may face opposition because of their faith and obedience to God (Daniel 6:1-15).  Daniel's promotion to governor put a target on his back.  His jealous coworkers planned to discredit him.  Daniel continued his faithful walk with God even in opposition to the king's decree and faced lethal punishment.

Key Truth: Believers bring glory to God when they remain faithful to Him (Daniel 6:16-28).  Miraculously, God sealed the mouths of the lions and Daniel was delivered unharmed.  The king acknowledged that God is powerful and praiseworthy.

Family Connection: Continue the discussion after church! What kinds of opposition do believers sometimes face from unbelievers? In what ways can believers bring glory to God by being faithful to Him? In what areas could you remain faithful to God this week even when others do not? How did Daniel's actions influence the King's perception of not only Daniel but also God?
