A Note From Pastor H.D.

Reading God’s word together is one of the best things we can do as a church. God’s word is “alive and active”! It causes us to be better suited to love Him and to love others. I hope that you will take time to read through these passages and listen to what God has to say to each one of us. Send a quick message to our writers - they do a great job helping us to think about the passage each day.

We will be looking at three main books in May and June. The first one is 2 Peter. Here Peter is concerned that false teachers are infiltrating the church. Peter understood “spiritual warfare” and knew that the church has to constantly be on guard against anything that distracts from the pure gospel. He will encourage the church to grow in wisdom, be able to detect false teachings and ultimately purify the church. The best way to know God’s word is to read and study God’s word. Peter also noted that we should have the return of Jesus on our mind.

Our second book will be Nehemiah. Here the people that were taken into captivity (think Daniel) are allowed to return to their homeland. Nehemiah will be a key leader in rebuilding the wall and helping the Jewish people return home. This book reminds us that when God disciplines us, He is always looking forward to restoring us to full fellowship. God will never leave us or forsake us.

The third book is the book of Hebrews. While there is some controversy over the author, it is plain to see the purpose of this book. The late Dr. Walter Martin quipped in his usual tongue-in-cheek manner “that the Book of Hebrews was written by a Hebrew to other Hebrews telling the Hebrews to stop acting like Hebrews.” In truth, many of the early Jewish believers were slipping back into the rites and rituals of Judaism in order to escape the mounting persecution. This book magnifies the phrase “Christ alone”… He is more superior than kings, prophets, and even the angels. Trust in Jesus only!

In Him,
Pastor H.D. & Susan
