I Timothy 6:6-10, 17-19  (HCSB)
6 But godliness with contentment is a great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. 9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains. Instructions to the Rich 17 Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, willing to share, 19 storing up for themselves a good reserve for the age to come, so that they may take hold of life that is real.

A common misconception many have today is that “money is the root of all evil”. If you think that’s what the Bible says, reread today’s passage again. It actually says, “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” Money is not evil. Having money is not evil. We see in verses 17 and 18 today that we are not to be arrogant about our wealth, but rather generous and ready to share. Are you willing to share the blessings God has given you with others? Sometimes that does mean giving someone money. But it can also mean letting someone borrow that extra car you have while theirs is in the shop. Or, maybe you let someone come swim in your pool because God has blessed you with a pool and they don’t have one. This passage is not just about giving money. Think more broadly about how you can share the worldly blessings God has given you.
