2 Timothy 2:22-26  (HCSB)
22 Flee from youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 But reject foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they breed quarrels. 24 The Lord’s slave must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient, 25 instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth. 26 Then they may come to their senses and escape the Devil’s trap, having been captured by him to do his will.

Mark Jenkins
How should the Lord’s servant behave? Paul is encouraging Timothy on behaviors and character traits he will need to be successful in leading the church of God. As Christians we are to run away from sinful desires. We should all pay attention to these verses; we are to flee from youthful passions (worldly desires, especially when we are young) that frequently cause us problems; we are to pursue Godliness, instead of our youthful passions. As we pursue things pleasing to God, we will be aligned with our Lord and Savior and we will be able to serve more effectively and enjoy our life with God when we are not ruled by passions and we are to create peace in the world. The pursuit of right is not to be done alone, but along with other believers. We see reference here to “the Lord’s Servant” must be qualified in ability (able to teach) and in character (gentle, patient...). As we relate the verses in James from earlier this week, there was a focus on taming the tongue, along with the ability to teach. We are to do things in a way that others can actually hear, not causing controversy.
