Proverbs 1:15-19 (HCSB)
15 my son, don’t travel that road with them
or set foot on their path,
16 because their feet run toward trouble
and they hurry to commit murder.
17 It is foolish to spread a net
where any bird can see it,
18 but they set an ambush to kill themselves;
they attack their own lives.
19 Such are the paths of all who make profit dishonestly;
it takes the lives of those who receive it.
Falicia Johnson
If you look at the previous verses (10-14) it explains very clearly what we are not supposed "to go along with" as mentioned in verse 15. Sometimes I find it so fascinating that the Bible can so clearly convey in black-and-white, dos and don'ts, and somehow our flesh still gets tangled up in sin. Verse 15 goes on to say,"do not set foot on their path." To step foot on someone's path would mean to walk alongside them. It would mean to be headed in the same direction. I think this is where the term that we are to be in the world, but not of the world comes into play. Yes, we need to reach out to the lost world, but that does not mean that we need to head in the same direction as they are. Is there anywhere in your life that you are walking on the same path and in the same direction as a non-believer?
