Questions for the Week

1. Matthew 5-7 is the Sermon On The Mount. How is it different than just a simple code of ethics? How does the trials, beatings, crucifixion, and death affect how we view Jesus’ statement to “turn the other cheek”? What is God’s purpose in that? Why should we do good to those that do us harm?

2. In 2 Corinthians 10:1-6, Paul is chided for being “bold” at a distance but “humble” in person. Why    would Paul send his “bold” letters ahead of his “humble” in person meetings? In our digital world, what can we take from how Paul handled difficult people? How often do texts/emails miscommunicate our tone or embolden us to say things we wouldn’t in person? What are the tools this passage gives us to combat that?

3. What is the difference between Jesus’ First and Second Comings? How are they still part of God’s redemptive plan? In the context of fighting, how does Jesus’ title “Faithful and True” give us hope with all the turmoil we experience –personally, professionally, and globally? Why is it important that it is JESUS (and not anyone else) making war?
