Parent & Child Dedication is about a commitment to put Jesus first in your home and to place your trust in Him as the source of direction as you lead your family and parent your child. This is the time for you to share with your closest friends and family what is most important to you and to ask them for their prayer and support.  It is also an opportunity for Temple Baptist and its people to affirm our public commitment to do our part in partnering with parents in support of their children.

Our desire is that you will surround yourself with family and friends who will pray for you, support you, give you good advice, listen to your struggles, and when life gets tough, help you remember what matters most.

We hope you will partner with us every Sunday by encouraging your child to fully participate with us as we create environments to lead him or her into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

To have your child dedicated at Temple Baptist Church:

  • We ask parents to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • We ask parents to be sure their beliefs line up with Temple Baptist Church statement of belief.
  • We ask parents to be regular attenders of Temple Baptist Church services.
  • We ask parents who are living together and who are not married to take steps to acknowledge and surrender to God’s plan for their relationship before participating in a child dedication service.

We are open to having conversations with you on any of the above statements. If you are interested, contact: Becky Jenkins (615-672-5339)

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can a single parent participate in a child dedication service?
Yes! Child dedication signifies the commitment of parents (including single parents) to do their best to raise their child to be a follower of Christ. Additionally, we highly encourage single parents to dedicate their child as they commit themselves to raise him or her without the presence or partnership of a spouse.

Is having my child dedicated the same as having him/her christened or Baptized?
Dedication and baptism are not synonymous terms. Through dedication you are acknowledging that your child is a blessing from God and that you desire God's blessing in your child's life.

How old does my child have to be? How old is too old?                             Children nursery – 3 years old can be dedicated.

Are my family and friends able to attend?
Yes! We believe that having your child(ren) dedicated should be a celebrated event in the lives of your family and friends.  As a courtesy we ask that you please have a count of the family and friends that will be sitting with you on the day of dedication so we can reserve seating for everyone.

What role do my friends and family play the day of the dedication?
Friends and family play an important role in dedication.  Family and friends will be seated strategically in the Sanctuary to have the best view of you during the dedication. Please know that it may not seem like your loved ones are sitting close to you, but rest assured they will have great seats!

Why do I need to send in a picture?
We ask that you send in 3 pictures so that we can display your child’s photo while they are being dedicated so that the whole church family is able to see your beautiful child(ren)! If you are dedicating multiple children, feel free to send in 3 pictures of each child.

Is there video of the Dedication available for purchase?
No, we do not release video of the Child Dedication.
Is there a class/meeting that will explain things further?
Yes! More information will be given closer to the dedication date.
