QUESTIONS FOR THE WEEK
1. Between Elijah and Elisha, Israel and Judah had a righteous prophet to lead them for nearly 100 years. Most of the Kings of Israel after Elisha died were evil. It’s often easy to dismiss the impact one person, called and used by God, can have. Where can God use you to make an impact in those around you? Where do you look for strength to stand strong?
2. As a general rule, the Kings of Israel and Judah that followed God had longer reigns and those that were evil had shorter reigns. Do you trust God to protect you when you are following Him? Conversely, how do you feel about evil leaders that seem to last too long? Even if God doesn’t fix every evil now, do you really trust Him to do so eventually?
3. When Israel was exiled to Assyria, the people had been acting sinfully for a long time. When consequences are not immediately connected to your actions; it is easy to think you’ve gotten away with sin. What sins are you most likely to keep doing because you “got away with it”? What would change if you saw the delayed punishment as God’s grace instead?
