John 17:1-5 (HCSB)
Jesus Prays for Himself Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said: Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You, 2 for You gave Him authority over all flesh; so He may give eternal life to all You have given Him. 3 This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent —Jesus Christ. 4 I have glorified You on the earth by completing the work You gave Me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with that glory I had with You before the world existed.

I must admit, I consider myself to be a person with many friends. But the friends that I know best, and that know me, are the ones that I have spent many, many hours doing life with over the years. Some of the others could just be considered acquaintances because I am still in the process of getting to know them. In verse 3, Jesus says, “that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent – Jesus Christ.” I don’t believe that you can “know” God and have a relationship with His Son by simply visiting Him for an hour or so each week sitting in a pew or in a class. You must spend time talking with Him in prayer, listening to Him through His Word, and walking with Him daily through the ins and outs of life. This is how you get to know any friend, and Jesus wants to be that Friend! So, I ask you, is Jesus simply an acquaintance or can you call Him your Friend?
